Recruitment Conditions and Positions
The applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree for no more than 3 years, or be a recent doctoral candidate who has passed the doctoral thesis defense. The applicants must be under 35 years old.

  1. Applicants for Class I and II postdoctoral positions should obtain a doctoral degree from a university or discipline that ranks among the top 100 in the world (ARWU, QS, THE, US News) .
  2. Applicants for Class II postdoctoral positions should obtain a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree from a domestic ‘Double First Class’ construction university, one of the top 500 universities in the world, or a research institute directly under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and obtain a doctoral degree or an excellent candidate who has passed the doctoral thesis defense.
  3. Applicants for Class III postdoctoral positions should have obtained a doctoral degree from domestic and international universities or research institutions, or have passed the excellent defense of their doctoral thesis.

Employment Period Management and Development Prospects

  1. Abide by discipline and laws, and have no violations of discipline or rules; Loving the cause of higher education, having good physical and mental health, possessing good moral character and professional ethics, generally under the age of 35;
  2. A doctoral degree obtained for no more than 3 years, or a recent doctoral thesis defense.

Fringe Benefits

  1. Salary: 200 thousand to 320 thousand yuan (before tax), and pay “five insurances and one fund” for postdoctoral fellows according to the standards of peers on campus;
  2. Housing security: Provide postdoctoral apartment rental or enjoy rental subsidies;
  3. Children’s enrollment: Admission and enrollment shall be handled according to the same treatment as the children of the school’s faculty and staff;

Open position: Two Postdoctoral Researchers

Job Description:

  • Under the leadership of Associate Professor Guillaume Marois, the two postdoctoral researchers will work on the NSFC-funded project: “The nexus of fertility, educational attainment, and labor force participation and its consequences for population aging in China”. Internal Migration and Urbanization Pillar

Open position: One open position. Depending on his or her qualifications, the applicant may be hired as Full Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor or Postdoctoral Researcher.

Job Description:

  • Develop own research agenda focusing on internal migration and urbanization in Asian countries
  • Work in collaboration with other scholars in the pillar led by Professor Yu Zhu, investigating a range of issues on internal migration and urbanization, including (but not limited to) patterns of internal migration and urbanization; the mobility transition and the settlement transition; and international comparative studies of internal migration and urbanization (particularly in Asian countries other than China)
  • Develop research for publication in leading demographic journals
  • Be capable of teaching courses on the ADRI graduate program (not applicable if the successful applicant is at the postdoctoral level)
  • Explore external funding opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Have a background in the study of migration and/or urbanization with a Ph.D. in demography, sociology, geography, economics or a related discipline
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Priority will be given to candidates with research experiences on Asian countries other than China and demonstrating an internationally competitive publication record in peer reviewed journals
  • For postdoctoral researchers, contracts length is two years (with possibility of extension to 3 years)

Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI) in the School of Sociology at Shanghai University was established on July 1st, 2015. Building on formal demography, ADRI carries out international comparative studies on topics concerning population and sustainable development in Asian countries. ADRI currently is comprised of five research pillars, including Population and Environment/Climate Change, Human Capital and Development, International Migration, Internal Migration and Urbanization, and Aging and Health. Sixteen faculty members from six countries are now working in ADRI. The working language in ADRI is English. The International Joint Laboratory of Behavior and Cognitive Science is looking to appointment Research Scientist/Professorship within the Research Areas of the Laboratory. The duties will include recruitment of research participants, screening and enrolment, running participants through the study protocol, physiological assessment of cognitive performance measures, data management, data analysis and preparation of manuscripts and supervision of Research Assistant assigned to the study. The academic will also develop new lines of research complementary to the main project.

 

The successful candidate must have:

– PhD by research in Psychology or an area relevant to the post.

Graduate students interested in pursuing their postdoctoral research at GTIIT are invited to search our listing for open calls here or contact the faculty member of interest directly – list of Guangdong Technion Faculty members.

Please note that all Post-Doc fellows must have an academic host. Invitations to postdoctoral trainees are up to one year with an option to extend it to up to five years in total. See Regulations for Postdoctoral Fellows.

Candidates must prepare a file that includes:

  1. Curriculum vitae and personal statements
  2. A publication list
  3. Three letters of recommendation (one from the mentor for PhD and/or Master’s studies)
  4. A short research plan outline (up to one page in length)
  5. Degree certificates with certified English translation for both the PhD and Master’s degrees
  6. This file should be sent to the host faculty member.

 

Funding:

The trainee will be fully funded by the trainee’s host faculty member who will determine the amount of scholarship. The starting date is flexible, and the length of the course must be greater than 6 months.

Professional technical teachers are employed on a three-year contract, while foreign language teachers are on a one-year contract. At the end of these terms, a performance evaluation will be conducted based on the requirements of the respective positions. Those who pass the evaluation will be processed for contract renewal in accordance with relevant policies, whereas those who fail to meet the evaluation criteria will not be offered an extension.

II. Postdoctoral Recruitment

In the next three years, the university intends to recruit more than 200 full-time postdoctoral fellows each year. (I) Main enrollment conditions

1. No more than 3 years after obtaining the doctoral degree;

2. (II) Major appointment entitlements

1. Remunerations. The base salary package for full-time postdoctoral fellows is RMB230,000/year before tax. Additional performance allowance may be offered by the cooperating mentor on a case-by-case basis.

2. Rental/purchase subsidies. Full-time postdoctoral fellows can apply for rental/purchase subsidy according to the relevant regulations. The current standard is RMB 3,000/month, which is provided during the tenure of appointment. The cumulative payment will not exceed 36 months, which is subject to the latest regulations of Hainan Province or the university.

3. Full-time postdoctoral fellows are entitled to social insurance, provident fund, children’s nursery and school enrollment and other benefits according to the regulations of the university during their stay in the programme.

(III) Conditions of retention

With Hainan University as the supporting unit, those, who have actively declared and successfully won the approval of national projects, or won the bronze medal or above in the National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, or have achieved outstanding scientific research results, may apply to stay at the university as full-time faculty members. Outstanding postdoctoral fellows with outstanding research performance can apply for the corresponding talent level and salary according to the university’s regulations when they stay at the university.

Founded in 1958 in Hainan Island, Hainan University is one of the first batch of national universities to construct the world-class disciplines. Haikou, the center of the Free Trade Port where Hainan University is located, is China’s first “World Healthy City”, China’s happiest city, and a strategic pivot city connecting the world with the country’s “Belt and Road” Initiative.

The university has a campus area of 6,073 mu (4.05 square kilometers), 44,000 full-time students, 31 schools, 13 first-level doctoral authorization points and 1 professional doctoral authorization point, 34 first-level master authorization points, 21 professional master authorization points, 69 undergraduate programms, 10 post-doctoral programs, 45 national-level first-class undergraduate programms, 6 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, 2 national first-class courses, 1 national first-class online open course, and 2 exemplary courses for ideological and political education of Ministry of Education. The disciplines cover philosophy, economics, law, literature, science, medicine, agriculture, engineering, management, and art. Crop science has been selected on the list of the world-class disciplines for two consecutive rounds. Eight disciplines, including plant and animal sciences, chemistry, materials science, agricultural sciences, engineering, environmental sciences and ecology, biology and biochemistry, and general social sciences, are among the top 1% of ESI worldwide.

In terms of faculty, the university now has more than 2,800 full-time teachers, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician of the National Academy of Engineering of Canada, one academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering Research, two academicians of the European Academy of Sciences, one foreign academician of the Japanese Academy of Engineering, one foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, four national teaching masters, 62 outstanding youth and other national talents. Hainan University successfully cultivated 23 national talents in 2020-2023. Prof. Luo Qingming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a bio-imaging scientist, is the president of the university.

In terms of talent cultivation, the source quality of students has been improving, with the proportion of candidates ranked among the top 10% in each province admitted to the general undergraduate program reaching 67.78% in 2023; postgraduates were all enrolled from their first choices. The student team won the gold medal of China International “Internet +” Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the champion of “Lilv Cup” National Colleges and Universities Mock Trial Competition, the first prize of the Sixth National College Students’ Art Exhibition, and the SIAM Award of the U.S. Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) for the first time.

In scientific research, the university and the Chinese Academy of Thermal Sciences were approved to build “tropical crop biological breeding” National Key Laboratory, and Southeast University was approved to build “digital medical engineering” National Key Laboratory. It has one State Key Laboratory jointly built by Hainan Province and the Ministry of Education, one cultivation base of State Key Laboratory jointly built by Hainan Province and the Ministry of Education, 21 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, three provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation centers, 17 provincial and ministerial engineering research centers, 15 academician workstations, 11 provincial key research bases of humanities, philosophy and social sciences. It has established the “Hainan Dongpo Culture Research and Communication Center” to help the cultural connotation construction of Hainan Free Trade Port. In terms of scientific research projects, 263 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 21 projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China (NSFC) were approved in 2023.

Facing the national strategy and the local demand of Hainan, the university will build up an advantageous discipline group around seven major fields, such as “Free Trade Port Development and Institutional Innovation”, “Ecological Civilization”, “Culture and Tourism”, “Southern Propagation and Tropical High-Efficiency Agriculture”, “Marine Science and Technology”, “One Health”, “Information Technology”, etc., so as to realize the goal of creating a “World-Class Academic Discipline” and a “Domestic First-Class University”.
