Position Overview

One or more postdoctoral researcher positions are available in the group of Dr. Justin L. Tan, a faculty member in the Cancer Institute of the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (http://www.szbl.ac.cn), a multi-billion RMB biomedical research initiative in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau greater bay area. The Tan lab focuses on drugging cell fate, where advanced chemical biology methods are developed and applied to identify natural product and synthetic chemical probes targeting a class of oncogenes called lineage transcription factors. The malfunctioning of these lineage factors push normal cells toward a cancer cell fate, and understanding their underlying disease mechanisms is crucial for downstream cancer therapeutic development.

The lab aims to (1) characterize the underlying mechanisms by which lineage transcription factors promote a tumorigenic cell fate by generating and studying engineered cell line and patient-derived xenograft models, and (2) modulate lineage factor-induced tumorigenic cell fate with chemical inhibitors identified through the development and application of high-throughput screening platforms.

Justin received his PhD in Chemical Biology from Harvard University. His work has been published in high impact journals such as Molecular Cell, Science, and Gastroenterology. He was formerly a Junior Principal Investigator at the Genome Institute of Singapore, and is a recipient of the prestigious National Science Scholarship (Singapore) that funded his undergraduate and graduate education in the US.

Position Requirements:

-PhD in Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, or other related disciplines.

-Able to work independently on multiple projects.

-Experience with mouse models is a plus.

-Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

Proposed Salary and Benefits:

The position is located in Shenzhen, China. Salary will be commensurate with experience, but is expected to be in the range of ~300,000 RMB/year plus standard benefits such as health insurance and social security. The initial appointment will be for two years. Contract extension is available upon mutual agreement.
