The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) at Lingnan University, a leading liberal arts institution in Asia, is to enhance the English language skills of Lingnan students and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies and future careers. The Centre provides compulsory and elective English courses as well as organising a range of co-curricular language activities. CEAL also offers courses in additional languages such as Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and French.

General Requirements

The Centre is looking for a part-time Korean lecturer to teach Korean language courses (Korean I, Korean II, and Korean III) from beginner to pre-intermediate level. Applicants should have: (i) experience in teaching Korean at the university level (preferably to students in Hong Kong); (ii) at least a master’s degree in Korean Language and Literature or a relevant field (Ph.D. preferred); and (iii) a Korean language teaching certificate (preferred).

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently; and

The Department of Geography in Hong Kong Baptist University offers a vibrant and collegial academic environment for research and teaching. The Department currently has a team of about 13 academic/teaching colleagues from various cultural backgrounds and over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Department places strong emphasis on high-quality and impactful research, particularly on research that informs social and environmental policies and advances knowledge in and beyond the discipline.

The Department is now recruiting an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in physical geography with primary expertise in hydrology and climate change. Various areas of specialization will be considered including but not limited to hydrology, water resources, water quality, soil science, land-atmosphere interactions, urban environment, and climate change. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Geography or a cognate discipline. They should have a track record of high-quality publications. Success in securing competitive research funding would be considered an asset, as interdisciplinary research experience. Outstanding candidate may be nominated to the Global STEM Professorship Scheme of the Hong Kong SAR Government. The appointee is expected to teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as supervise student research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

This is a tenure-track position with an initial appointment on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing in September 2024. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected to be attained within six years. Outstanding candidate at Associate/Full Professor may be considered for tenure on appointment.

Responsibilities:
The appointee is expected to (i) teach core and elective credit-bearing courses, language enhancement courses, workshops and services, and other English courses assigned by the Language Centre; (ii) assist in the design and development of course syllabuses, teaching materials and assessment tasks, as well as creating self-access language learning materials; (iii) assist in organising events, workshops and extracurricular activities; and (iv) perform other duties assigned by the Language Centre.

Requirements:
For Lecturer II, applicants should have a good postgraduate qualification, preferably a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field, and native or native-like proficiency in English. A minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience at the tertiary level is required. Possession of a postgraduate teaching certificate/diploma and a proven record of excellence in teaching would be an advantage. Candidates with a master’s degree and less full-time teaching experience will be considered for the Assistant Lecturer position.

For both positions, candidates should have experience in teaching academic English writing, public speaking, materials development, e-learning initiatives, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a large team of teachers. Candidates with insights into pedagogical innovations and the ability to implement them will be an asset to the Language Centre.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support PR-related work for the Department;
  • Assist in departmental events and activities;

Part-time Lecturer in Videography and Video Editing (PR0010/23-24)

The appointee is expected to teach courses for visual arts students as well as non-major students at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, teaching experience, a good record of professional practice, knowledge of the contemporary visual arts and familiarity with the broader issues and trends in the field.

1. Videography and Video Editing

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Re-appointment is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

1. Ceramics;
2. Printmaking;
3. Graphic Arts;
4. Object Culture; and
5. Object Technology (device art, automation and performance, robotics and generative AI, etc)
